About Us
Salem Blood Bank was started in the year 2004.  Through the trust, we are doing various social service activities.  Due to Road accidents, Surgeries, there is a heavy requirement of Human Blood.  Hence we decided to start a Blood Bank through our trust.

SALEM BLOOD BANK was inaugurated on August, 4th 2007 by then Salem Collector Mr  N.Mathivanan in the presence of SONA College Chairman Mr. Dhirajlaland Managing Director of SPMM Hospital Mr S.  Devarajan. Now we have upgraded ourselves into the Blood Bank Component centre and also we have been approved by Govt Of  India as Regional Blood Transfusion Centre, (Approval for conducting Blood Donation Camps).

Through our trust we are conducting various blood donation awareness programs.  This awareness programs helps us in identifying the voluntary donors.  The Whole Human Blood we collect from the Voluntary donors will be issued as either whole human blood or processed into blood components after proper screening is dome.

The following are the blood components 1. Packed Red Cells 2. Platelets Concentrate 3. Plasma.

Packed Red Cells can be used for the treatment of Chronic Anaemia.  The transfusion of Red cells will improved the delivery of oxygen to the tissued within short span of time.

Platelets are required for treatment of thrombocytopenic Patients.  Platelet Concentrate can be used for treatment of Dengue Fever and low platelet count.   Platelets can be prepared from a single unit of blood either from PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) or from buffy coat and resuspended in 50ml of autologous plasma.

Fresh Frozen Plasma can be used to treat clotting disorders or as a volume replacement when crystalloids and colloids are not used.

To meet the enquiries we are conducting blood donation camps in the leading educational institutions in and near Salem district.
